Colic can be a stressful time for a parent and a baby. Colic usually appears between 2 and 16 weeks after birth. Colic is defined as unexplained bouts of crying that cannot be relieved, lasting at least 3 hours. Colic can be especially difficult for parents because the baby appears to be in distress. Symptoms may include tummy rumblings, reddening the face, pulling legs up indicating stomach pains, and loud screaming.
The causes of colic are most likely due to gut issues and milk allergies. Agents of insult to colic include soy-based formula, prescription drug use by a mother, and there have been observations of colic onset immediately following the administration of an agent that resembles a disease-causing microorganism.
The good news is that there is an easy cure for colic that works with the body to reverse colic naturally; the remedy is a chiropractic adjustment. Research in the United Kingdom identified that parents noticed significant changes in their babies’ crying behavior after being adjusted compared to babies who were not adjusted. Results were seen on average between 8 and 10 days, and it did not matter if parents were aware of what treatment group their baby was in.
Research in Denmark identified that more significant improvement was noticed. The reason believed that the adjustment is so beneficial is due to the correlation between the spine and nervous system. When the spine is adjusted, the nervous system is balanced, favoring a state of ease. In this state, the body can adapt and heal more proficiently. The birthing process can be stressful on the fragile spine of an infant and based upon the research mentioned; I recommend that infants get checked early and often. The best cure will always be prevention, and by maintaining optimal spinal alignment, you can influence a more excellent state of health.
