The magical holiday season is upon us, which means get-togethers with friends, family, and office holiday parties. Most social get-togethers during this season include the consumption of libations. Is alcohol a part of the advanced or core plan eating strategies? Absolutely not, but many of us have tried to be the “good one” at the party and we soon succumb to the urge to consume. I will partake in a libation or two during this season that also includes the celebration of my 30th birthday. I despise any type of hangover or decrease in my performance the day after partaking in alcohol. I have … [Read more...]
Why Stability Exercises, Not Stretches, are the Answer to Low Back Pain. By: Dr. Andrew Baranski
It is estimated that in the past 3 months, about 25% of Americans have experienced a bout of low back pain symptoms. You will probably be prescribed a muscle relaxer drug if you go to your doctor, which is not a good option. The most common approach at the physical therapist will include a cookie-cutter approach to analyzing the pain-generating area, and then mobilization stretches will be prescribed. Even the typical chiropractor will prescribe three adjustments a week until you feel better and prescribe stretches. Unfortunately, the problem is not a lack of muscle relaxers or a lack of … [Read more...]
Unlock the Power of the Universe Within You By: Dr. Andrew Baranski
Chiropractic was never designed to be a method of treating pain or symptoms. Originally chiropractic was developed to get sick people well. The theory was that the brain controls all functions in the body by sending signals from the spinal cord through nerves exiting from the spine and that if a vertebra is misaligned, then the function of those nerves decreases. The pressure on the nervous system will initially create dis-ease within the body, and over time this dis-ease will cause disease. As the philosophy and science behind chiropractic developed, answers to questions behind the basis of … [Read more...]
Why to Only See Chiropractors Who Take X-rays. By: Dr. Andrew Baranski
A subluxation is a misalignment of a vertebra that interferes with the neural connection between the central nervous system and the body. Subluxation is what a chiropractor reduces with an adjustment, but before performing an adjustment, a subluxation must first be identified. The Adjusting Technique Manual at my alma mater, Palmer College of Chiropractic, supplies a detailed report on the manifestations of a subluxation. The process of discovering expression of a subluxation is broken into two parts; subjective findings (i.e., personal, case history, and patient information) and an objective … [Read more...]
The Ultimate “Cure” to Infantile Colic By: Dr. Andrew Baranski
Colic can be a stressful time for a parent and a baby. Colic usually appears between 2 and 16 weeks after birth. Colic is defined as unexplained bouts of crying that cannot be relieved, lasting at least 3 hours. Colic can be especially difficult for parents because the baby appears to be in distress. Symptoms may include tummy rumblings, reddening the face, pulling legs up indicating stomach pains, and loud screaming. The causes of colic are most likely due to gut issues and milk allergies. Agents of insult to colic include soy-based formula, prescription drug use by a mother, and there have … [Read more...]
